Yankees suffer fifth straight loss to Tigers

The New York Yankees stumbled to a 7-3 loss against the Detroit Tigers on Monday night at Yankee Stadium, dropping their fifth straight game as Ryan Weathers endured his shortest outing of the season. The loss dropped New York to 48-36, while Detroit improved to 36-49.

Weathers never found his rhythm, lasting just 1.2 innings while allowing five runs, though only two were earned, on seven hits with three strikeouts and one walk. Defensive miscues didn’t help, as Austin Wells’ passed ball in the first inning and José Caballero’s error in the second extended innings before Hao-Yu Lee’s two-run single capped a five-run Tigers outburst. Detroit added two more runs in the fourth to build a commanding 7-0 advantage.

The Yankees also suffered an injury scare in the fourth when Jazz Chisholm Jr. collided with right fielder Jasson Domínguez while chasing a fly ball. Domínguez made the catch, but Chisholm left the game after taking Domínguez’s arm to the face and was replaced by Oswaldo Cabrera.

New York’s offense had no answer for Casey Mize, who dominated over seven innings, striking out 10 while allowing just one hit — Spencer Jones’ leadoff double in the third. The Yankees finally got on the board in the eighth when pinch-hitter Amed Rosario launched a three-run homer, but the late rally came far too late to threaten Detroit’s lead.

Box Score

The Yankees continue their three-game series against the Tigers on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. Cam Schlittler (8-4, 1.62 ERA) is scheduled to start for New York against Detroit left-hander Tarik Skubal (3-4, 3.32 ERA).
