Student tied to terror plot eyed Siena

Investigators say a law student who died during a failed terrorism incident had also explored a mass shooting plan at Siena University, according to the Times Union.

Authorities say 23-year-old Dawson Maloney, an Albany Law School student and Siena graduate, considered targeting a campus building in 2023. FBI investigators uncovered the idea while reviewing data from his cellphone.

Maloney later abandoned that plan and instead targeted a Nevada power substation. Police say he drove a rented car through a fence near the site before fatally shooting himself. Officials say there is no ongoing threat to Siena.
