Advocates push Alzheimer’s care funding

Families struggling with Alzheimer’s care say New York’s budget leaves too many seniors without help, according to Spectrum News.

Advocates are urging state lawmakers to expand the Special Needs Assisted Living Residence Voucher Program from $7.75 million to $15 million. The program helps seniors with Alzheimer’s afford assisted living or in-home care.

Supporters say about 139 people currently receive help while roughly 129 remain on a waiting list. Advocates argue the program costs less than Medicaid-funded nursing home care and will become more critical as New York’s aging population grows.
