A Wayne County teenager is scrubbing away decades of neglect to give long-forgotten residents their stories back, according to RochesterFirst. Sixteen-year-old Parker Maybe has cleaned and researched headstones across dozens of cemeteries, some dating back more than 150 years.
Maybe launched the effort in 2022 through GraveGeeks, a nonprofit he helps run, and later expanded the work online through his “Gone Graving” videos. The clips document restorations and highlight the lives behind the stones, including many veterans, and some have drawn more than a million views.
He now plans to clean and repair 50 more headstones as part of his Eagle Scout project, saying the work gives the dead a voice again.
