Troopers from the New York State Police in Painted Post responded to the crash around 6:56 a.m. on January 1 after reports of a rollover with entrapment.

Investigators found a 2024 Freightliner plow truck off the south shoulder of the road, resting on its passenger side. Police said the truck left the roadway for an unknown reason.

Before troopers arrived, emergency crews extricated the driver and transported him to St. James Hospital. Police later learned the man died from his injuries while en route to the hospital.

The Steuben County coroner responded to the scene and ordered an autopsy to determine the official cause of death.

State police continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
