A recent ruling by New York’s top court doesn’t weaken Seneca Falls’ landfill shutdown law, according to the Finger Lakes Times. The Court of Appeals said Seneca Meadows Inc. has the right to challenge Local Law 3—but CCSC President Glen Silver called it a “procedural” move, not a blow to the law itself.
The core legal fight now returns to the Appellate Division, where environmental and timing arguments will be reviewed. The law, which aims to close the landfill, remains in effect.
Meanwhile, the DEC is reviewing Seneca Meadows’ requests for a new permit and a 47-acre expansion, which could keep it open until 2040.
