The Buffalo Bills survived an unexpectedly tense afternoon, edging the Cleveland Browns, 23-20, on Sunday afternoon at Huntington Bank Field to improve to 11-4.
What began as a dominant showing quickly turned uncomfortable for Buffalo. The Bills scored touchdowns on their first three possessions and appeared poised for a runaway win, only for the offense to stall for most of the remaining three quarters. Buffalo finished with just 259 total yards and struggled to sustain drives, opening the door for Cleveland to stay within striking distance.
Defensively, the Bills endured another uneven performance. Cleveland controlled the ball for more than 35 minutes, outgained Buffalo 294-259 and consistently converted on third down. Rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders moved the Browns offense effectively, even after Cleveland lost running back Quinshon Judkins late in the first half. Still, the Bills capitalized on key moments, intercepting Sanders twice to prevent the game from slipping away.
Cleveland had a chance to take the lead midway through the fourth quarter, but Greg Rousseau delivered a pivotal sack on fourth-and-2 with 5:08 remaining. Buffalo failed to put the game away offensively, including a dropped fourth-down touchdown by Dawson Knox, but the defense closed it out with a strong pass rush that forced a third-and-32 and a punt.
Josh Allen completed 12-of-19 passes for 130 yards for Buffalo, while James Cook carried the offense with 117 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries.
