New York is likely to miss its 2030 emissions targets by nearly a decade—even with stronger climate action, according to State of Politics.
The state’s Energy Planning Board says progress has slowed due to weak federal support, including tariffs and tax credit rollbacks. Its updated forecast now pegs the 40% emissions cut goal for 2037–2038. Meanwhile, Gov. Hochul is shifting to an “all of the above” strategy that includes natural gas and nuclear power, drawing political fire ahead of the 2026 election.
The final energy plan is expected by year’s end.
