A Rochester man was arrested March 18 after state police said they found a loaded firearm during a traffic stop.
Taykwane Timothy Taylor, 31, of Rochester, was taken into custody following the stop in the city, according to New York State Police.
Troopers said the stop occurred around 5:48 p.m. after a 2014 Jeep Cherokee was observed on the Inner Loop and Allen Street with the driver not wearing a seatbelt and the vehicle having non-transparent side windows. The vehicle was stopped on State Street.
During the investigation, police determined Taylor’s driving privileges had been suspended multiple times, leading to the vehicle being impounded.
While conducting an inventory of the vehicle, troopers located a loaded 9mm semi-automatic “ghost gun” under the driver’s seat. Police said the firearm had one round in the chamber and a magazine containing nine additional rounds.
Taylor was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a felony, criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree and aggravated unlicensed operation in the second degree, along with vehicle and traffic violations.
Authorities said the firearm and ammunition were seized as evidence. Taylor was transported to the Monroe County Jail for centralized arraignment.
