Syracuse QB Steve Angeli to miss remainder of season with torn Achilles

Syracuse quarterback Steve Angeli will miss the rest of the season after suffering a torn left Achilles during the team’s upset win over Clemson, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported Sunday.

The injury occurred in the third quarter when Angeli went down without contact while scrambling. He had to be helped off the field and later appeared on the sideline in a boot and using crutches.

Before exiting, Angeli completed 18-of-31 passes for 244 yards and two touchdowns. His season ends with 1,316 passing yards, 10 touchdowns, and just two interceptions. Rickie Collins stepped in and threw a touchdown on his second play, helping Syracuse to a 34-21 victory.

Angeli, a transfer from Notre Dame, arrived at Syracuse with two years of eligibility and could be eligible for a medical redshirt since the injury occurred in the fourth game. He previously backed up Riley Leonard in 2024 and competed for the Irish’s starting role in 2025 before transferring.

The win over Clemson improved Syracuse’s record to 3-1, putting the team on track for a potential fourth straight bowl appearance, something the program hasn’t accomplished since 1995–1999.Â
