Auburn’s City Council is set to vote Thursday on a $49.8 million budget that includes a 3.84% property tax increase, according to The Citizen. The budget closes an $8.6 million shortfall through spending cuts, fee hikes, and a $1 million dip into reserves.
Despite early consideration of overriding the state’s tax cap, council members ultimately stayed within limits. The budget includes over $578,000 in state aid, plus $200,000 to support the Equal Rights Heritage Center.
A proposed 5% hotel tax, expected to generate $500,000 annually, will also be introduced.
