A Cayuga County man has been arrested for allegedly raping a child younger than 15, following an investigation by New York State Police.
Christopher T. Quaile, 43, of Locke, was taken into custody on March 10 and charged with second-degree rape, a Class D felony. Authorities say the investigation began on January 14 when Cortland County Child Protective Services contacted troopers after a child disclosed allegations of abuse. Police determined that Quaile engaged in multiple instances of criminal sexual conduct with the child in July 2023.
According to court records, he was previously charged in January with second-degree rape and endangering the welfare of a child. He has also been convicted twice in the past for failing to report a change of address as a sex offender.
Quaile was already in custody at the Cayuga County Jail on unrelated charges when investigators secured a court order on March 5 to bring him in for arrest. Following his arraignment on the new charge, he was returned to the jail.
Prosecutors have recommended that Quaile be held without bail due to his prior felony convictions and his pending sentencing in another felony case.
