The Wayne County Board of Supervisors are set to meet Tuesday at 9 a.m., with a packed agenda that includes critical discussions on county budgets, public safety, and community programs. High on the list are amendments to the 2024 budget to support mental health services and youth sports funding, along with infrastructure projects aimed at improving county services.
One significant item includes a proposal to increase funding for mental health providers, reflecting additional state aid. This would amend provider contracts for agencies like The ARC Wayne and the Catholic Family Center, which will receive more resources to help deliver community behavioral health services. Additionally, a contract renewal for psychiatric nurse practitioners, including long-time provider Donna Fladd, will be discussed.
Another key agenda item involves a lease renewal for temporary housing with Lucas64 Rentals. This 3-year agreement will continue to provide cost-effective housing for homeless individuals, proving to be a budget-friendly alternative to placing individuals in motels or hotels.
In youth services, the Lyons Community Center is set to receive an additional $8,045 for youth team sports funding, extending their contract through Sept. 30, 2024. The committee will also consider retaining a part-time Social Welfare Examiner position to support the Department of Social Services as they handle rising caseloads and seasonal needs like the HEAP program.
Other matters on the agenda include discussions on snow and ice control contracts, broadband service improvements for rural areas, and the approval of tourism grants. The meeting will set the stage for important decisions affecting Wayne County residents and services heading into 2025.
