Yankees give up six home runs in lopsided loss to Twins

The New York Yankees were overpowered by the Minnesota Twins, 11-4, on Saturday afternoon at Yankee Stadium as six Minnesota home runs spoiled Brendan Beck’s first major league start. The loss dropped New York to 49-39, while the Twins evened the series at 43-47 and continued the Yankees’ recent pitching struggles.

Making his first big league start after being called up to replace the injured Carlos Rodón, Beck endured a difficult afternoon. The rookie right-hander surrendered five earned runs on five hits over 3.2 innings, allowing four home runs while striking out three and walking two. Minnesota jumped ahead before Beck recorded an out, highlighted by Byron Buxton’s RBI double and Kody Clemens’ two-run homer. Luke Keaschall and Alex Jackson added back-to-back solo shots in the fourth before Trevor Larnach greeted reliever Tim Hill with another homer.

The Yankees finally broke through in the fourth on Jasson Domínguez’s solo blast, then pulled within 6-4 in the fifth behind Max Schuemann’s two-run homer and Cody Bellinger’s RBI double. However, New York squandered a bases-loaded opportunity in the sixth when Paul Goldschmidt’s pinch-hit popout extended his hitless streak to 21 at-bats.

Josh Bell delivered two home runs and three RBI, while the Yankees’ defense continued to struggle, allowing another unearned run after a Jazz Chisholm Jr. error. The Yankees have now surrendered 24 unearned runs over their last 14 games after allowing just 22 through their first 74 contests.
