Former Auburn prison inmate convicted of throwing urine on nurse, officer

A former Auburn Correctional Facility inmate was convicted Thursday of throwing urine on a registered nurse and correction officer, according to the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office.

District Attorney Brittany Grome Antonacci said a Cayuga County Court jury found Levar Murray guilty of two counts of aggravated harassment of an employee by an incarcerated individual.

Prosecutors said the incident happened Jan. 10, 2024, while Murray was confined to the Special Housing Unit at Auburn Correctional Facility. The district attorney’s office said Murray threw urine on a registered nurse and a correction officer as the nurse was delivering medication to his cell.

The jury, made up of nine women and three men, returned its verdict shortly before 1 p.m. Thursday.

Murray is currently housed at Attica Correctional Facility, where he is serving a nine-year sentence for Kings County convictions of attempted criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and criminal possession of a firearm.

He faces a maximum sentence of 2 1/2 to 5 years in prison and a $5,000 fine when he returns to court for sentencing Sept. 25. Prosecutors said the sentence must be served consecutively to his current sentence.

Chief Assistant District Attorney Christopher T. Valdina prosecuted the case.
