Ontario man charged after bomb threat report at county DSS office in Hopewell

Ontario County deputies say a reported bomb threat at the county Department of Social Services building in Hopewell was quickly determined to be not credible, and a man was later charged after investigators said he tried to steal an employee badge.

Deputies responded around 11:15 a.m. July 10 to the Ontario County DSS Building at 3010 County Complex Drive in the Town of Hopewell for a bomb threat report, according to the Ontario County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said they quickly converged on the area and identified and detained the involved suspect, Christopher S. Hillen, 48, of Ontario.

The Sheriff's Office said there was no credible threat to the facility. During the investigation, deputies determined Hillen also attempted to steal an employee badge from a DSS case worker.

Hillen was taken into custody for attempted petit larceny and issued an appearance ticket on that charge. Deputies said he was also trespassed from Ontario County DSS.

He is scheduled to return to Hopewell Town Court at a later date to answer the charge.
