An independent candidate seeking to represent New York’s 24th Congressional District says he has cleared a major hurdle in his bid to appear on the November ballot.
Todd Sloan, an attorney based in Cayuga County running on the Upstate ballot line, announced that his campaign submitted approximately 5,000 petition signatures to the New York State Board of Elections ahead of this week’s filing deadline.
According to the campaign, Sloan personally delivered 12 bound volumes containing 1,158 pages of signatures to the Board of Elections office in Albany on May 22. The filing deadline for ballot access petitions was May 26.
Sloan said the campaign’s focus now shifts to the objection process, during which opposing parties and campaigns can challenge petition signatures under New York election law. He said the petitions are currently listed as valid by the state Board of Elections.
Running as a constitutional independent, Sloan said his campaign is centered on restoring powers he believes Congress has delegated away over time. He emphasized that he is not running as either a Democrat or Republican.
The 24th Congressional District covers a large portion of western and central New York, including Cayuga County and much of the Finger Lakes region.
