The New York Yankees (33-22) overwhelmed the Kansas City Royals, 15-1, on Tuesday night at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City as a record-setting offensive performance and a strong outing from Cam Schlittler extended New York’s win streak to three games while moving them to 13 straight wins over Kansas City, including postseason matchups.
The Yankees wasted no time taking control, jumping on Royals pitching early and never letting up. Cody Bellinger opened the scoring with a first-inning solo home run before a defensive miscue and a Paul Goldschmidt double set the stage for Amed Rosario, who crushed a two-run blast to left-center to push the lead to 4-0. Anthony Volpe followed with his first homer of the season in the second inning, and New York kept stacking runs from there, scoring four more in the third and continuing to break the game open as the night progressed.
The offensive barrage featured six home runs and 24 hits, the most by the Yankees in a single game since 2011. Every starter recorded at least two hits, marking the first time in franchise history that feat has been accomplished in a single game. Volpe finished 3-for-6 with two RBI, while Bellinger, Jazz Chisholm Jr., and Trent Grisham also went deep as New York poured on runs late, including Rosario’s second homer of the night in the ninth inning.
Schlittler was in control throughout his start, allowing just one run on four hits over six innings while striking out six on only 77 pitches. His lone mistake came on a Bobby Witt Jr. home run in the third inning, but otherwise he continued a strong stretch in which he has now gone at least six innings in four straight starts.
The Yankees will close out the three-game series against the Royals on Wednesday, with first pitch scheduled for 7:40 p.m. Gerrit Cole is set to make his second start of the season for New York, while Kansas City will counter with Noah Cameron.
