The New York Mets continued their offensive struggles Saturday night, falling 4-1 to the Miami Marlins at LoanDepot Park. New York dropped to 22-30 with its fourth loss in five games, while Miami improved to 24-29 after dominant pitching silenced the Mets lineup for a second straight night.
After managing just one run Friday, the Mets were again overmatched at the plate as Marlins starter Max Meyer carried a no-hit bid deep into the game. New York’s first hit did not arrive until Tyrone Taylor lined a pinch-hit double in the ninth inning.
Juan Soto’s 449-foot homer in Friday’s opener accounted for the Mets’ only offense through the first 18 innings of the series before Mark Vientos finally delivered an RBI single in the ninth on Saturday. But the late rally quickly ended when A.J. Ewing grounded out to close the game.
The Mets finished with only two hits and struck out repeatedly against Meyer, who mixed velocity and off-speed pitches effectively across seven shutout innings. New York managed just six hits, four walks and two total runs through the first two games of the series.
The Mets conclude their three-game series against Miami on Sunday at 1:40 p.m. at LoanDepot Park. New York is expected to send right-hander Freddy Peralta to the mound against Marlins right-hander Max Meyer.
