State investigators have started interviewing New York State Police troopers over alleged Ryder Cup pass abuse, according to the Times Union. The probe centers on whether high-ranking officials used law enforcement credentials and free PGA passes to access restricted areas at the 2025 tournament on Long Island.
Gov. Kathy Hochul directed Superintendent Steven G. James to turn the case over to the inspector general last year. The scrutiny helped trigger the departures of former First Deputy Superintendent R. Christopher West and former Col. Darrin S. Pitkin. Investigators also reportedly examined how complimentary passes reached friends and family members.
Troopers raised concerns after seeing senior officials in VIP areas while rank-and-file members worked long shifts with limited accommodations. Retired officials aren’t required to cooperate with the investigation.
