The New York Yankees squandered a dominant outing from Ryan Weathers on Monday night, falling 3-2 to the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards for their fourth straight loss. New York dropped to 24-16, while Baltimore improved to 19-23 thanks to a late three-run homer from Coby Mayo.
Ben Rice provided nearly all of the Yankees’ offense early, recording New York’s first two hits of the game. His two-run homer to left-center in the third inning gave the Yankees a 2-0 lead and marked his 13th home run of the season.
Weathers delivered arguably his best performance since joining New York, carrying a no-hitter into the seventh inning. The left-hander retired 13 consecutive batters at one point and struck out five straight hitters across the second and third innings. Adley Rutschman broke up the no-hit bid with a single in the seventh before Aaron Boone turned to Brent Headrick, who immediately surrendered a go-ahead three-run homer to Mayo.
The Yankees missed multiple opportunities to extend their lead before Baltimore rallied. Aaron Judge was stranded at third in the sixth inning after leading off with a double, while Max Schuemann was left at third in the seventh following a one-out double. New York finished 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.
The Yankees continue their three-game series against the Orioles on Tuesday, with first pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Will Warren (4-1, 3.46 ERA) is expected to start for New York, while Baltimore has not announced a starter.
