Canandaigua man charged after police vehicle damaged

A Canandaigua man was arrested after police said he threatened an officer and caused a patrol vehicle to require extensive cleaning during an incident on South Main Street.

Christopher Waldron, 40, was arrested June 23 at 10:25 p.m. and charged with third-degree criminal tampering, second-degree harassment and open container, according to a police blotter entry.

Police said officers responded to a report of an intoxicated person on South Main Street and found Waldron near Green Street with an open alcoholic beverage. Police said he was intoxicated to the point that he could not care for himself and was placed under mental health arrest.

After being placed in the rear of a patrol vehicle, Waldron threatened to harm the arresting officer, spit and slammed his head against the window, causing a cut to his head, according to the blotter entry.

Police said blood and spit covered the rear of the patrol vehicle, requiring extensive cleaning. After Waldron was discharged from the hospital, he was transported to the Ontario County Jail for arraignment.
