Canandaigua woman charged with felony DWI after crash with children in car

A Canandaigua woman faces felony DWI and child endangerment charges after police said she crashed into a light pole while two children were in the back seat.

Rosemary Escalera-Martinez, 40, was arrested June 22 at 7:12 p.m. after a vehicle struck a light pole in the parking lot at 699 South Main St., according to a police blotter entry.

Police said Escalera-Martinez was driving while intoxicated when she struck the pole. Two children, ages 5 and 7, were seated in the rear of the vehicle and suffered minor injuries.

The children were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for evaluation.

Escalera-Martinez was charged with felony driving while intoxicated under Leandra's Law, aggravated DWI and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. She was later taken to the Ontario County Jail for arraignment.
