The New York Mets ended their 12-game losing streak on Wednesday night, defeating the Minnesota Twins 3-2 at Citi Field to secure their first win since April 7 and halt their longest skid in nearly two decades.
New York showed early signs of life at the plate, striking in the first inning as Bo Bichette doubled and came around to score on a Francisco Lindor single. Lindor added another hit later before exiting after four innings due to left calf tightness, forcing a defensive shift. The Mets added a second run in the fourth but missed chances to extend the lead, including a costly baserunning mistake that kept the game tied heading into the late innings.
Clay Holmes delivered a strong start, allowing two runs over seven innings while limiting Minnesota to five hits and inducing weak contact throughout. The right-hander’s only blemish came in the sixth inning when Byron Buxton launched a solo home run to even the score at 2-2.
After being thrown out at the plate earlier in the game, Mark Vientos responded in the biggest moment. With two outs in the eighth inning, he lined a go-ahead single to right field to score Brett Baty and give New York the lead. Luke Weaver recorded the final outs, closing the door after working out of trouble late.
The Mets wrap up their series against the Minnesota Twins on Thursday, April 24 at Citi Field. First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m.
