Everyday beauty products could be exposing people to cancer-linked chemicals, according to Spectrum News 1, and New York advocates want lawmakers to act fast. A proposed bill, the Beauty Justice Act, aims to ban or restrict toxic ingredients in cosmetics and personal care items.
An analysis of 577 hair products found nearly one in eight contained formaldehyde-releasing chemicals. Others included substances tied to cancer and reproductive harm, with products for textured hair hit hardest.
The bill, introduced by Lea Webb, would regulate ingredients statewide. Advocates say until then, consumers should check product contents more closely.
