Protests target Hochul’s nuclear push

Protesters rallied across New York Tuesday against Gov. Kathy Hochul’s push to expand nuclear power, according to Spectrum News 1.

Demonstrations took place in Albany, Buffalo, Rochester and New York City, with another planned in the North Country. Opponents argued the state should put more money into renewable energy instead of costly new nuclear plants.

Hochul has directed state officials to build a path toward 4 gigawatts of new nuclear power, on top of earlier plans through the New York Power Authority. Supporters say nuclear energy can help stabilize the grid while cutting emissions.
