The New York Mets (7-9) were swept by the Athletics (8-7) with a 1-0 loss on Sunday afternoon at Citi Field, closing out a rough 1-5 homestand and extending their losing streak to five games. In a tightly played pitchers’ duel, New York wasted a strong outing on the mound and could not deliver a timely hit, finishing the series without a win.
Freddy Peralta turned in his best start as a Met, allowing just one run over six innings on four hits while striking out six. The lone mistake came in the third inning when Nick Kurtz connected for a solo home run, which proved to be the difference. Peralta settled in from there, completing six innings for the first time this season and lowering his ERA to 3.86. The Mets had early chances but could not capitalize, as Athletics starter Aaron Civale retired 13 consecutive batters after a pair of first-inning hits and kept New York off balance deep into the game.
The Mets’ best opportunity came in the sixth inning when Francisco Lindor, who finished 2-for-3, helped spark a brief rally. With runners on base, New York could not break through, continuing a theme of missed chances throughout the homestand. Sean Manaea provided a dominant effort out of the bullpen, retiring all nine batters he faced across three innings while striking out four to keep the deficit at one. But the Mets’ offense went quietly in the ninth, sealing the shutout loss.
Next, the Mets will begin a three-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday at 10:10 p.m. in LA.
