New Yorkers most frequently sought help for medical billing issues in 2025, according to a new report from the state Attorney General’s Office.
The Health Care Bureau received 4,890 complaints through its helpline, with billing problems accounting for the largest share.
Officials said 42% of complaints involved provider billing practices, including duplicate charges and incorrect claims.
Other common issues included wrongful practices, claim-processing errors, and insurance coverage denials.
The office reported securing $1.53 million in restitution and savings for consumers by resolving disputes and correcting billing and insurance issues.
The helpline also helped residents obtain needed medical care and restore improperly terminated coverage.
