Livingston County officials are mourning the death of former Board of Supervisors member Francis “Fran” Kosakowski.
Kosakowski died Feb. 22 at his home. He was 89.
Kosakowski began his public service in 1986 as a member of the Livonia Town Board. He later served eight years as Livonia town supervisor before retiring in 1997.
During his time on the county’s Board of Supervisors, he served on the Judicial, Public Safety Supervisors, and Public Works & Transportation committees. He also chaired the Finance and Social Services committees.
“We on the board are deeply saddened by the passing of former member Fran Kosakowski,” Board Chair David LeFeber said. “I’ve known Fran and his family personally for many years and have always had enormous respect for him and his steadfast commitment to the betterment of Livingston County. Fran was a dedicated public servant who truly embodied the spirit of civic duty over his many years representing the people of Livonia. We honor his long history of service and extend our deepest condolences to the Kosakowski family.”
Kosakowski also served as an exempt member of the Livonia Fire Department and belonged to the Livonia Rotary Club.
He was elected as a write-in candidate to the local school board in 1971 and served for 10 years. He helped guide the Town of Livonia in acquiring Vitale Park in Lakeville and developing the Freedom Point Park portion of the grounds.
