William Smith basketball was defeated by St. Lawrence, 68-47, on Friday afternoon in a Liberty League contest at Bristol Gym.
The Herons (3-19, 1-14 Liberty League) placed three players in double figures, led by Ava Lobozzo’s 12 points along with two rebounds and two assists. Giana Lobozzo recorded her second double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds, while Jojo Sulmasy added 10 points and five rebounds. Amelia McCulley chipped in nine points. St. Lawrence was paced by Norah Niesz, who scored a game-high 19 points, while Elizabeth Flynn contributed 10 points and nine rebounds.
St. Lawrence seized control early, opening the game on a 10-0 run and carrying a 19-11 lead after the first quarter. The Saints extended the margin in the second quarter, outscoring William Smith 21-5 to take a 40-16 advantage into halftime while shooting 56 percent from the field.
William Smith tightened defensively in the second half, limiting St. Lawrence to 19 percent shooting in the third quarter and outscoring the Saints 16-9 in the fourth. Despite the improved defensive effort and a late push, the Herons were unable to overcome the first-half deficit.
St. Lawrence finished with a 50-44 edge in rebounding, while William Smith recorded 10 assists and four blocks.
William Smith returns to action Saturday, February 14, hosting Clarkson at 2 p.m. in Bristol Gym.
