The New York Mets (71-85) closed out their regular-season home schedule with a loss Sunday, falling 7-2 to the Philadelphia Phillies (86-70) at Citi Field.
New York finished the season with a 36-45 record at home.
Jonah Tong struggled to match his previous scoreless start, allowing four earned runs on five hits with five strikeouts and four walks over 4.2 innings.
Tong surrendered two runs in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Luis Arraez and an RBI single from Alec Bohm. He briefly appeared to hurt himself while covering first base to end the inning, stumbling after beating Bryson Stott to the bag, but returned to the mound for the second inning.
Philadelphia added two more runs in the third. Tong walked Kyle Schwarber for the second time before Trea Turner doubled home a run. Turner later scored on another Arraez single, putting Philadelphia ahead 4-0.
The Mets finally broke through against Cristopher Sánchez in the sixth when Bo Bichette launched a solo home run into the second deck in left field. The homer was Bichette’s 17th of the season and his first since September 6.
New York pulled within two runs in the seventh. A.J. Ewing and Brett Baty singled as pinch-hitters, with Baty bringing home a run. Francisco Lindor and Juan Soto were unable to extend the rally.
Kodai Senga then allowed three runs in the eighth, including a three-run triple by Justin Crawford. Senga recorded one out while walking three and surrendering two hits.
Sánchez limited New York to two runs on six hits over 6.1 innings, striking out six without issuing a walk. His 18 wins are the most by a Phillies pitcher since Roy Halladay won 19 in 2011.
The Mets are off Monday before opening a series against the Texas Rangers on Tuesday at 8:05 p.m. Sean Manaea is scheduled to start for New York.
