The White House issued a message extending wishes to Jewish communities observing Yom Kippur, the holiest day on the Jewish calendar.
The presidential message described the observance as a time for fasting, prayer and charity and said the administration remains committed to protecting religious freedom.
Yom Kippur concludes the Jewish High Holy Days and is traditionally centered on atonement, reflection and renewal. The message referred to the day as the “Sabbath of Sabbaths.”
The statement closed with wishes for renewed strength and faith and a blessing for the United States.
