An Ontario woman faces 148 animal cruelty and abandonment charges after deputies said four cats were left without food or water for more than two weeks in unsanitary conditions.
Corinne J. Speights, 28, was charged with 144 counts of failure to provide proper sustenance and four counts of animal abandonment following an investigation by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies allege Speights abandoned the four cats and deprived them of necessary food and water over an 18-day period while keeping them in an unsanitary environment.
The Sheriff’s Office said deputies executed a search warrant at Speights’ Cortland Drive property and seized three of the four cats.
Deputies reported finding trash along with cat and dog feces and urine throughout the inside of the residence.
The three seized cats were turned over to the Humane Society of Wayne County.
Speights was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Ontario Town Court at 1 p.m. Oct. 27.
