Shots fired after neighbor dispute in Jordan

State police are investigating a shots fired incident Thursday night in the village of Jordan that stemmed from a dispute between neighbors.

Troopers responded around 8:12 p.m. to Mechanic Street after reports of gunfire. No one was injured.

Investigators said a verbal dispute between residents in upstairs and downstairs apartments escalated into a physical confrontation. Police said the upstairs resident forced entry into the downstairs apartment and accused an occupant of stealing delivered packages before being pushed out and locked out.

A short time later, one of the downstairs residents went outside to move a vehicle. Police said the upstairs male resident then went downstairs, armed himself with a rifle, and fired a single round into the driveway area in that person’s direction. The shot did not strike anyone.

State Police obtained a search warrant for the upstairs apartment. Troopers seized three firearms, ammunition, and body armor during the search.

Daniel T. Ballard, 40, of Jordan was arrested and charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, two counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and unlawful purchase and possession of body armor in the first degree.

Renee Fatta, 43, of Jordan was also arrested and charged with second-degree criminal trespass and second-degree harassment.

Ballard was transported to Syracuse City Court pending arraignment. Fatta was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Elbridge Town Court on Jan. 26 at 5 p.m.

State Police were assisted at the scene by the Jordan Police Department and the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation remains ongoing.

All suspects accused of a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
