Red Cross urges blood donations for 2026

Cold weather slows donations, but the demand for blood never does, according to WETM.

The American Red Cross says winter storms often keep donors home, creating dangerous shortages. One car crash victim alone might need up to 100 units of blood. Despite high-tech advances, blood can only come from human donors.

With 40% of the nation’s supply coming from the Red Cross, officials are pushing for more appointments — especially as trauma, cancer, and childbirth cases continue year-round.
