Top-ranked Hobart men’s hockey seized early control and rolled to a 5-2 road win over No. 4 Oswego on Friday night in SUNYAC play. The Statesmen improved to 9-0-0 overall and 5-0-0 in the conference, extending their winning streak to 15 games and their unbeaten run to 22.
Tanner Daniels led the offense with two goals, while Dominic Schimizzi, Tristan Fasig, and Easton Ryan added one each. Damon Beaver turned aside 17 shots to earn his sixth victory of the season. Hobart held a 31-19 edge in shots and kept Oswego off the board on its lone power play.
Daniels put the Statesmen ahead just 17 seconds in by redirecting a point shot, and Schimizzi doubled the lead midway through the opening period by burying a rebound. Oswego answered late in the period when Colin Vassallo converted at the top of the crease to make it 2-1.
Hobart pulled away in the second, striking twice in a 37-second span. Fasig crashed the net off a faceoff win to restore a two-goal cushion, and Daniels followed with a wrister from the right circle for a 4-1 advantage. Oswego’s Connor Gatto trimmed the deficit with a late unassisted tally in the third, but Ryan sealed the win with an empty-net goal in the closing minutes.
Hobart wraps up its four-game road swing on Saturday night at Brockport, with puck drop set for 7 p.m.
