ORANGE GAME DAY: Syracuse men's basketball hosts Delaware State in first-ever meeting (preview)

The Syracuse men’s basketball continues its season-opening homestand when it hosts the Delaware State Hornets today at 1 p.m.

The Orange opened their season with a dominant 85-47 win over Binghamton on Monday, while the Hornets enter at 0-1 following an 83-65 loss to Temple in their opener.

Syracuse put its revamped roster on full display against Binghamton, with five players reaching double-digit scoring. Donnie Freeman led the way with 20 points and six rebounds, while William Kyle III scored 16 points on 8-of-9 shooting, including six dunks. Naithan George added 15 points and a team-high eight assists, and Kiyan Anthony contributed 15 points in his regular-season debut. Tyler Betsey rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points, while Luke Fennell recorded his first collegiate basket. The Orange defense was equally impressive, holding Binghamton under 50 points for the first time since 2022 and limiting the Bearcats to just 14 points in the first half.

Delaware State brings a new-look roster to Syracuse, led by coach Stan Waterman in his fifth season. The Hornets were competitive early against Temple but struggled in the paint, giving up 46 points down low. Sophomore returners Ponce James and Kareem Watson led the offense, while graduate transfers Zion Bethea and Rahmir Moore joined the starting five.
