Syracuse women’s soccer fell 1-0 at California on Thursday despite a strong defensive showing. The loss dropped the Orange to 4-4-4 overall and 0-3-1 in ACC play, while Cal improved to 6-1-5.
Goalkeeper Shea Vanderbosch stopped six shots, moving within one save of Syracuse’s record (344). She split her saves evenly across both halves, including a pair of key stops in the opening 35 minutes to keep the game scoreless.
The Golden Bears broke through in the 65th minute when Elhom Khursand drove toward the end line and fed Soleil Dimry for a redirect into the net, her second goal of the year and the game-winner.
Syracuse produced four shots on target but couldn’t find an equalizer. Mia Klammer tested Cal goalkeeper Teagan Wy early, while Ashley Rauch and Anna Rupert combined for dangerous looks later in the match. Jasmine Nixon added a long-range strike in the second half that also forced a save.
Cal held a 16-5 edge in shots, but the Orange defense, anchored by Bree Bridges, Natalie Magnotta, Nixon, and Vanderbosch, logged a full 90 minutes.
Syracuse continues its West Coast trip at No. 3 Stanford on Sunday at 4 p.m.
