The second-ranked William Smith soccer team used a dominant second half to secure a 3-0 road win over Salisbury in non-conference play on Sunday afternoon. With the victory, Herons improve to 3-0-1 on the season.
After a scoreless first half, sophomore Casey Holstein opened the scoring in the 61st minute, assisted by Analise Pilarski. Less than a minute later, senior Ruth Hotaling doubled the lead with her third goal of the season. Julia Bragg capped the scoring in the 89th minute, notching her fourth of the year.
Junior goalkeeper Antonia Goerke recorded her third straight shutout, making three key saves, including a diving stop late in the first half.
William Smith outshot Salisbury 20-7 overall, with a 12-3 advantage in the second half, and led 6-3 in corner kicks.
The Herons return to action on Saturday, September 13, traveling to face nationally ranked Messiah at noon.
