ORANGE GAME DAY: Syracuse football opens season against Tennessee (preview)

Syracuse kicks off its 2025 season today at noon in Atlanta, taking on No. 24 Tennessee in the Aflac Kickoff Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

It’s the Orange’s first neutral-site opener since 2013 and only the fourth all-time meeting between the two programs, with the Volunteers holding a 3-0 series lead.

Head coach Fran Brown, entering his second year at the helm after guiding Syracuse to a 10-3 record and a Holiday Bowl victory last season, gets an early chance to test his retooled roster against one of college football’s perennial powerhouses.

Much of the spotlight will fall on new quarterback Steve Angeli, a transfer from Notre Dame who steps into an offense that led the nation in passing a year ago. Tennessee also features a new signal caller in Joey Aguilar, a transfer from Appalachian State with more than 6,700 career passing yards.

The Orange come in having won 10 of their last 11 season openers.
