Three Auburn police officers were recognized for their quick thinking and bravery after responding to a shooting near Chapman Avenue late last month.
On the night of July 26, Officers Bucci, Lagrow, and Schattinger sprang into action after hearing gunfire near a block party at Oak Creek Townhomes. As they approached, they found a man standing with a gun and another lying injured near the curb.
The officers ordered the man to drop the weapon. Officer Lagrow quickly secured the gun with his foot while Officer Schattinger placed the suspect in handcuffs. Meanwhile, Officer Bucci rushed to the gunshot victim and began providing medical care while calling for EMS.
As a tense and emotional crowd formed, backup arrived to help secure the scene and manage the situation. Officers Bufano, Fabiani, Barnes, and McCaleb assisted with crowd control and medical support.
According to an internal memo from Captain Michael Chadwick, the officers’ teamwork and courage likely prevented further violence or injury. All three were formally commended for their actions under pressure.
