The Buffalo Sabres announced Monday they have signed defenseman Bowen Byram to a two-year contract worth an average of $6.25 million per season, securing him through 2026-27.
Byram, 24, appeared in all 82 games last season, setting personal bests in ice time (22:42 per game), assists (31), total points (38), plus-minus (+11), and blocked shots (116). He contributed in every scenario, finishing third among Sabres defensemen in both penalty kill (1:52) and power-play (0:56) minutes on average. At even strength, Buffalo outscored opponents 80-66 when he was on the ice.
Originally from Cranbrook, British Columbia, Byram was selected fourth overall by Colorado in 2019. He spent parts of four seasons with the Avalanche and played 27 postseason games. During Colorado’s 2022 Stanley Cup run, he led the playoffs with a plus-15 rating and added nine assists.
The Sabres acquired him in a March 2024 trade. Since joining Buffalo, Byram has recorded 47 points (10 goals, 37 assists) and a plus-10 rating in 100 games. Over his NHL career, he has accumulated 110 points in 246 appearances.
