Newfield targets 2026 for $4.2M water system overhaul

Newfield officials plan to begin long-needed water infrastructure upgrades in 2026, backed by a $4.2 million state grant, according to Tompkins Weekly.

The project will replace aging pipes and pumps—some over 60 years old—starting with Main Street, the system’s most deteriorated section. Officials may bond for additional costs and are weighing whether to complete the work in phases or all at once.

Residents are encouraged to attend upcoming public hearings. Town leaders say the upgrades will improve water quality and reliability for years to come.
