Farm Sanctuary to host annual Pignic on July 5

The fields of Watkins Glen will echo with music, laughter, and pig snorts as Farm Sanctuary’s beloved Pignic event returns on Saturday, July 5.

The celebration, held from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m., invites guests to connect with rescued animals, explore the debut Finger Lakes Makers Market, and enjoy a vegan BBQ alongside live music and family-friendly activities.

Visitors can roam the sanctuary grounds, meet Farm Sanctuary’s resident pigs, and participate in enrichment sessions that culminate in a watermelon party—an event highlight and a favorite among the pigs. The on-site café will serve up a plant-based feast, while local artisans showcase their crafts at the newly introduced Makers Market.

Gene Baur, Farm Sanctuary’s president and co-founder, will deliver a special presentation on the organization’s mission to build “a more compassionate world.”

Founded in 1986, Farm Sanctuary rescues animals from abuse and neglect at locations in New York and California. The organization also advocates for policy change and promotes compassionate vegan living as a means to combat the harms of animal agriculture.

According to the event listing, “Whether you’re a longtime supporter or a first-time visitor, the Pignic is a unique opportunity to experience Farm Sanctuary’s lifesaving work firsthand.”
