Pulteney woman indicted for murder after stabbing victim dies

A Steuben County woman is now facing a murder charge after a man she allegedly stabbed earlier this month died from his injuries.

Annika Szathmary, 25, of Pulteney, was originally charged with attempted murder following a May 3 stabbing on County Route 74. According to Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard, Szathmary stabbed 53-year-old William Pryll inside his home, striking him in the back and heart.

Pryll was first treated at Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital in Bath before being transferred to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Authorities confirmed he later died as a result of the attack.

Steuben County District Attorney Brooks Baker said Szathmary confessed to the stabbing and was found at the scene with the weapon.

Szathmary, who was initially held without bail on the attempted murder charge, has now been indicted for second-degree murder. She remains in the Steuben County Jail without bail.
