Jasson Domínguez’s three-homer night powers Yankees to series-opening win over Athletics (highlights)

Jasson Domínguez put on a show in West Sacramento Friday night, blasting three home runs and driving in seven runs to lead the New York Yankees (22-16) to a 10-2 rout of the Athletics (20-19).

Despite early missed opportunities with runners in scoring position, the Yankees quickly found their groove through the long ball. After stranding multiple runners in the first two innings, Paul Goldschmidt and Domínguez sparked the offense with back-to-back homers in the third. That was just the beginning for “The Martian.”

Domínguez, who finished 3-for-4, launched his second homer of the night in the seventh, a 431-foot blast from the right side of the plate, and then capped his night with his first career grand slam in the eighth. At 21 years old, he became the youngest player in Yankees history to hit three homers in a game.

Will Warren delivered the best start of his young career, throwing 7.1 innings of one-run ball while striking out seven. The rookie right-hander allowed just four hits and one walk, showing command and poise throughout, especially after escaping a fourth-inning jam with back-to-back strikeouts.

Every Yankee starter except Trent Grisham collected a hit, with multiple-hit efforts from Goldschmidt, Ben Rice, J.C. Escarra, and Jorbit Vivas. Aaron Judge doubled and walked, starting a new on-base streak after his previous 38-game run was snapped.

Box Score

The Yankees will look to secure a series win on Saturday afternoon when Carlos Rodón takes the mound against JP Sears. The first pitch is scheduled for 4:05 p.m.
