Clay Holmes blew his second save of the season, and the New York Yankees (33-16) had their seven-game win streak snapped with a 5-4 loss to the Seattle Mariners (26-22) on Monday night at Yankee Stadium.

New York led 4-1 going into the top of the ninth, but Holmes allowed four runs, and the Mariners grabbed the lead. In the home half of the frame, Juan Soto lined a one-out single before the Yankees rally fell short.

This came after Marcus Stroman tossed 7.1 innings of one-run ball while striking out six.

Alex Verdugo drove in three of New York’s four runs with a two-run double and an RBI single. Jon Berti plated the other run with a two-out RBI single.

Box Score

The Yankees will try to even the four-game series on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. with Clarke Schmidt on the hill.
