New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli announced that the New York State Common Retirement Fund achieved an 11.55% return for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2024. The fund’s estimated value at the end of the fiscal year was $267.7 billion.
“Strong performances across asset classes drove the fund’s returns higher, with better-than-expected company earnings and robust consumer spending,” DiNapoli said. Despite persistent inflation and global tensions, the fund is well-positioned to continue providing retirement security for public employees.
The fund’s investments include 42.85% in publicly traded equities, with the rest in cash, bonds, private equity, real estate, and other strategies. The fund paid out $16.07 billion in retirement and death benefits during the fiscal year and continues to be among the best-managed and best-funded public pension plans in the U.S.
