Voters in Ithaca and Newfield approved revised school budgets in Tuesday’s re-vote elections. Both districts saw strong voter turnout, with Ithaca nearly matching the numbers from May and Newfield surpassing them.

Ithaca’s new budget, set at $163 million, passed with 74.1% approval. It includes a 2.9% spending increase and a 2.8% tax levy raise. Despite avoiding a contingency budget, the district will eliminate or combine classes with fewer than 17 students and cut 48 positions.

Newfield’s budget of $25.4 million was approved by 59.7% of voters, increasing spending by 3.7% and the tax levy by 2.5%. The district will cut a technology teacher position shared between the middle and high schools.
