NYS Celebrates Senior Housing Project in Waterloo

Governor Kathy Hochul announced the opening of LaFayette Apartments, a 35-unit affordable housing development for seniors in the historic Main Street School in Waterloo. The project is part of Hochul’s $25 billion Housing Plan to create or preserve 100,000 affordable homes across New York.

The apartments are available to residents 62 and older, earning up to 60% of the Area Median Income. The building includes laundry facilities, a community kitchen, and on-site support services. Some units are designed to aid those with mobility, vision, and hearing impairments.

The project, supported by various state programs, transformed the vacant school into housing and a public event space. This effort aims to revitalize downtown Waterloo and support the local economy.
